At Lectures for Schools, we believe that top-quality teaching should not come at premium prices. Too often, access to expert instruction is limited by cost, and we want to change that. Our driving motivation is to make excellent teaching accessible, affordable and impactful for pupils everywhere.
Our lecturers are all qualified teachers with decades of classroom experience. This wealth of knowledge—drawn from working in a wide range of schools, curricula, qualifications, and examination boards—means our teaching is rooted in real practice, not just theory. We know what works, what examiners are looking for, and how pupils can make the most of their preparation time.
Our lectures are carefully designed to support and complement classroom learning. Whilst they are not a direct replacement for one-to-one tuition, they offer a powerful way to consolidate understanding, build confidence and sharpen examination technique. Sessions are interactive, structured around clear learning goals and are always focused on practical strategies that help pupils succeed.
Currently, we offer focused mathematics lectures in the run-up to major examination sessions. These sessions guide pupils through past papers, tackle common problem areas and provide opportunities for interactive questioning. In the future, we plan to expand our programme beyond mathematics to cover a wider range of subjects, year groups and curricula - ensuring that more pupils benefit from affordable, expert support at the times they need it most.
By broadening our offer, we hope to give pupils a stronger sense of direction and confidence, helping them not just to improve examination performance, but also to deepen their long-term understanding of the subject.
Lectures for Schools was founded by Jon Toby, a secondary school mathematics teacher with extensive experience teaching across multiple key stages and qualifications. He has taught in both the state and independent sectors, working within a wide range of schools in each, and has also led several mathematics departments as Head of Department. This breadth of experience has given him a deep understanding of the challenges pupils face when preparing for high-stakes examinations such as IGCSEs and A-Levels.
Jon has long been committed to improving the accessibility of examination preparation and reducing the stress it can cause. In the classroom, he has seen first-hand how powerful focused examination practice can be—but also how difficult it is for pupils to access high-quality, affordable support outside of school. This recognition inspired him to create Lectures for Schools: a platform that provides expert guidance at a fraction of the cost of traditional tuition.
Before launching this project, Jon trialled several lecture programmes with his own pupils and beyond. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with pupils reporting increased confidence, improved exam readiness and a clearer understanding of what examiners expect. Encouraged by this response, Jon took the leap into building a larger platform—bringing together expert teachers to deliver accessible, affordable and effective lectures for pupils everywhere.
At the heart of Lectures for Schools is Jon’s belief that every pupil deserves access to the kind of high-quality teaching that helps them thrive, no matter their background.
